Can the rice be eaten if it has worms?

Why does rice grow insects
Mili worms are not strange, and they are a natural phenomenon. Generally speaking, there are two reasons: one is that when the grain is still in the ground, the eggs of rice worms are brought with them. The starch content in rice is very high, followed by protein. Under normal circumstances, there will be no insects, because the water content of rice is very small, and the growth and development of eggs need water. When the rice is in an environment with a temperature of 20°C-40°C and a humidity of 65°-95°, it only takes a week for the eggs to hatch.
Another reason is that every household buys rice every year, and every year there are insects. Some insect eggs are hidden in the bottom of the rice tank, the cracks in the rice bag, the cracks in the walls, and the cracks in the ground. It is difficult to remove them one by one. When there is rice in the home and the climate is suitable, these worm eggs hatch out and climb into the rice bag, and start to nurture the next generation.
Can I still eat rice with insects?
Generally, the worms in the rice are relatively clean, and they are virus-free. As long as you dispose of them and clean the rice, you can eat them normally. And the rice stored at home is prone to bugs because it has been left for a long time. If the infestation is not serious, put the rice bag in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator and freeze for 24 hours before taking it out. The worms were frozen to death and turned red and black, and they were easy to pick out, and the taste of the rice did not change. Never expose the rice to the sun. People often like to expose rice that has been stored for a long time in the sun. Not only does this fail to kill the rice worms, but the rice after exposure will lose too much water and affect its taste. You can put the rice in the sun. Dry in the shade to allow bugs to fly away or crawl out.
How to deal with rice insects
Put pepper, garlic, etc. in the rice. The advantage of this method is that there are no side effects. The disadvantage is that the rice will absorb the taste of these plants, which will affect the taste of the rice to a certain extent. If the rice has been infected with insects and cannot be exposed to the sun, it should be placed in a cool and ventilated place to allow the insects to crawl out slowly, and then sift it.
Why is rice moldy
Rice is a food rich in nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and inorganic salts. It is a good natural culture medium for microorganisms. When the external temperature, humidity and other environmental conditions meet the needs of microbial growth, microbes will breed and multiply in the rice. The growth and activities of microorganisms in rice need to decompose and utilize various nutrients of rice, thereby destroying the structure of rice and reducing the use and processing value of rice. At the same time, the metabolic activities of microorganisms can also secrete a variety of toxic metabolites. So moldy rice is normal. Therefore, to ensure the safe storage of rice, we must control the activity of microorganisms.
Can the moldy rice still be eaten?
In the early stage of moldy rice, if it is not serious, it can be eaten after repeated washing with salt to reduce the content of mycotoxins (recommendation: moldy rice is best not to eat). If the mildew is serious, you must not eat it, because the moldy rice contains aflatoxin, which is a carcinogen.
How to prevent mildew on rice
1. Lower the temperature: divide the rice into small sample bags/preservation bags, and then put them in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator. Take a few each time as needed.
2. Reduce humidity: The rice sold on the market now generally has high moisture. You can spread the rice and dry it. If the moisture is dry enough, the rice will not be easy to mold. You can also use dried kelp or desiccant to absorb moisture. , To prevent mildew.
3. Reduce the oxygen concentration: If the household has a vacuum pump and a vacuum bag, you can also pour the rice into the vacuum bag and vacuum, so that the mold will not grow easily.
